A content strategy that builds thought leadership—not individual pieces of content.

Topical Authority for B2B companies. Pillar-cluster architecture, content audits, and editorial support — personally led by Dennis Hüttner.

You produce content regularly, but visibility is stagnating. Individual articles generate clicks that don’t translate into inquiries. And now your content is even being cited by ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity—while you don’t even know if Google understands it at all.

The problem is rarely the quality of your writing. It’s the lack of structure. Without topical authority—without clear subject leadership through a systematically linked content hierarchy—Google treats your site as a collection of individual documents rather than an authoritative source. We build the structure that changes that.

What "Topical Authority" Really Means

Topical authority is the goal of being recognized as the leading source for a specific subject area—not just by Google, but also by AI systems like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. These systems cite sources that provide comprehensive coverage of topics. Those that do not are invisible to AI responses.

The method behind this is called pillar-cluster architecture: A central main page (pillar) comprehensively covers a broad topic. Below it are cluster pages that delve deeper into subtopics and link back to the pillar page. Google recognizes this as a signal of expertise—and ranks the entire topic group higher.

The most common mistake: Companies produce content based on inspiration rather than strategy. The result is 80 articles with no links, no clear search intent, and no measurable SEO impact. A content audit uncovers this—and shows what should be fixed, consolidated, or deleted before new content is created.

Four building blocks

What our content strategy entails

Four interrelated components. None of them is optional if the goal is sustainable visibility.

Module 01

Content Audit & Gap Analysis

Assessment: Which pieces of content rank well, which ones are cannibalizing each other, and which ones don’t cover a target keyword? Comparison with the top three competitors: What are you missing, and what do others have? The result is a prioritized list—what to delete, what to revise, and what to create from scratch.

Module 02

Pillar-cluster architecture

Structured content hierarchy: pillar pages for main topics, cluster pages for subtopics, and internal linking as a signal of expertise. Each cluster page strengthens the pillar page—and the pillar page strengthens all clusters. Google and AI systems recognize this as topic authority.

Module 03

Editorial Calendar & Briefings

An editorial plan that includes keyword priorities, search intent, target audience, and format recommendations for each post. Briefing templates that in-house editors, freelancers, or content agencies can implement directly—without you having to act as a bottleneck every time.

Module 04

AI-citable structures (GEO)

FAQ structure, how-to markup, clear definitions, structured answers to user questions. AI systems cite sources that answer questions directly—without beating around the bush. We structure your content so that it is recognized as a source by ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Content Strategy

Seven questions we’re always asked during the initial consultation—answered directly, without any marketing jargon.

What is Topical Authority?

Topical authority refers to the goal of being recognized as the leading and most comprehensive source on a specific topic—by Google and AI systems such as ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity. Covering a topic in depth and breadth (pillar page + linked cluster pages) signals expertise to search engines. This leads to better rankings for all pages in that subject area—not just for individual articles.

What is content strategy in the context of SEO?

In the context of SEO, content strategy means systematically planning which content appeals to which target audience for which search query—and how this content is linked together. Without a strategy, you end up with individual pages that cannibalize each other or fail to cover any relevant keywords. With a strategy, every new piece of content builds on existing content and strengthens the entire subject area.

What is a content audit?

A content audit is a systematic evaluation of all existing content: Which pieces drive organic traffic? Which ones rank for the same keyword and compete with each other (cannibalization)? Which pieces lack targeted keywords and generate no traffic? Which ones should be merged, revised, or deleted? The content audit is the foundation of any sustainable content strategy.

How much does content strategy consulting cost?

A one-time content strategy workshop starts at €864 (8 hours). The complete strategy documentation starts at €1,728 (16 hours). Ongoing monthly support starts at €1,728/month or is available as part of an SEO Growth Package. Individual services on an hourly basis: €108/hour. During a free initial consultation, we’ll determine which format makes the most sense.

How long does it take for content SEO to take effect?

Honest answer: Content SEO is an investment with delayed returns. Optimizing existing content (titles, meta tags, internal links) typically takes 4–8 weeks to show results. New content with targeted keyword optimization takes 3–6 months to achieve measurable organic visibility. Topical authority develops over 6–12 months—there’s no shortcut that lasts.

How do you build topical authority?

Step 1: Define the pillar page (broad topic, all key sub-questions answered). Step 2: Plan cluster pages (subtopics with their own search intent). Step 3: Consistently build internal linking (cluster → pillar, pillar → cluster). Step 4: Continuously fill in gaps until the topic area is fully covered. No shortcuts—systematic work over 6–12 months.

Can I implement a content strategy internally as well?

Yes. Our briefing templates and cluster maps are specifically designed so that in-house editors, freelancers, or content agencies can use them—without us becoming a constant bottleneck. We provide the strategy as a working document; the implementation is up to you. Upon request, we can provide monthly support—but that’s not mandatory.

15-Minute Check
