Conversion tracking measures which clicks on your ads lead to actual actions—form submissions, phone calls, demo bookings, purchases. Without tracking, Google’s algorithm optimizes based on clicks rather than results. That means you’re paying for traffic that doesn’t convert. No setup without proper conversion tracking—that’s not an option.

What are negative keywords, and why are they so important?

Negative keywords exclude search queries for which you don’t want your ads to appear. Example: B2B service providers might exclude “free,” “no cost,” “internship,” and “self-study.” Without a negative keyword list, Google spends your budget on search queries that will never turn into customers. A strong negative keyword list often saves 20–40% of your click budget.

What is Quality Score, and why is it important?

The Quality Score (1–10) is Google’s assessment of your keyword relevance, ad copy, and landing page quality. A higher score lowers your cost per click while maintaining the same ad position. If you improve your Quality Score from 4 to 7, you can get significantly more qualified clicks on the same budget. Optimizing your Quality Score is often more effective than increasing your budget.

Should I use Google Search or Performance Max?

For B2B with specific target customers: Start with search campaigns. Search gives you control—you can see which keywords trigger ads and fine-tune your strategy. Performance Max is partly a black box that Google optimizes on its own. It makes sense as a supplement to an existing, functioning search setup, not as a replacement for it. Google’s recommendation to use Performance Max right away is in Google’s interest, not yours.
