Caching Strategies

What are caching strategies?

Caching strategies combine multiple cache levels to make websites measurably faster and reduce server load: browser cache, application cache (e.g., opcode cache), CMS-internal cache, reverse proxy (Varnish, NGINX), and CDN. Each level has different rules for validity and invalidation. At Waterproof Web Wizard, we document cache strategies on a per-project basis and align them with editorial workflows, a page that takes hours to appear updated results in more support calls than any millisecond saved in load time is worth.
