First-Party Tracking

What is first-party tracking?

First-party tracking is data collection that takes place exclusively through a site’s own domain, cookies, containers, and endpoints belong to the site operator. The advantage: browsers like Safari, Firefox, and Brave severely restrict third-party data, while first-party tracking remains robust. It is typically implemented via server-side tracking or first-party subdomains for tag managers and tracking endpoints. At Waterproof Web Wizard, we view first-party tracking as a key strategy for 2026, those who don’t make the switch now will increasingly lose attribution accuracy for conversions.
