INP (Interaction to Next Paint)

What is INP?

INP (Interaction to Next Paint) measures how long it takes a page to visibly respond to a user interaction, a click, tap, or keystroke. Since March 2024, INP has replaced the old FID metric as a Core Web Vital. Thresholds: good ≤ 200 ms, needs improvement ≤ 500 ms, poor above that. The main cause of poor INP scores is blocking JavaScript. At Waterproof Web Wizard, we analyze INP using Chrome DevTools and RUM data, split large JS bundles, and offload computationally intensive tasks to Web Workers, before editors start visibly losing their minds.
