What is an LLM?
A Large Language Model (LLM) is a large AI model trained on text with billions of parameters. LLMs form the basis of today’s AI assistants, ChatGPT (GPT-5), Claude (Anthropic), Gemini (Google), and Copilot (Microsoft). They understand, generate, and transform language, solve tasks within specific contexts, and can operate external systems through tool usage.
