Multi-Site Setup

What is a multi-site setup?

A multi-site setup involves operating multiple websites, brands, or country-specific sites within a single CMS installation, with a shared code base, a shared update path, and a shared editorial team, but with separate front-end layouts and URL structures. TYPO3 is particularly well-suited for multi-site setups, while WordPress handles this via multisite networks. At Waterproof Web Wizard, we use multi-site when clients manage multiple similar sites, such as subsidiaries, regions, or brands. It’s important to clearly separate rights and responsibilities; otherwise, shared maintenance can become a bottleneck.
