TTFB (Time to First Byte)
Definition: The time between a user’s click and the moment the browser receives the first byte of data from the server. Measures server and network speed.
Everyday analogy: Like the wait time at a restaurant between placing an order and the waiter’s first “Your order will be right out.” It says nothing about the food, only about how the kitchen is organized.
How we use this: A high TTFB in the PageSpeed audit indicates hosting issues or poor caching. Target value: under 600 milliseconds.
