User Signals

What are user signals?

User signals are patterns of user behavior that search engines and analytics systems evaluate as quality indicators, CTR in the SERP, dwell time, scroll depth, pogo sticking (quickly jumping back to the SERP), interactions, and return visits. Google does not use signals directly as a ranking factor, but does use them to evaluate the results of its algorithms. At Waterproof Web Wizard, we optimize user signals indirectly, through intent alignment, clear snippets, fast load times, and genuine added value in the content. Pure “signal tricks” like scroll spoofing won’t withstand an algorithm update.
