XML

What is XML?

XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a markup language used to represent data in a structured format, in the form of tags and attributes, that is readable by both humans and machines. XML has served as the standard for data exchange between systems for decades, for example in SOAP APIs, sitemaps, RSS/Atom feeds, Office documents, and product data. JSON has largely replaced XML in the modern web API space, but XML remains firmly established in enterprise interfaces. At Waterproof Web Wizard, we encounter XML primarily in sitemap maintenance, PIM integrations, and legacy integrations.
