Noindex

What is Noindex?

Noindex is a meta directive that excludes a single page from being indexed by search engines, implemented either as a meta-robots tag in the HTML head or as an X-Robots tag in the HTTP header. Typical uses: thank-you pages, filter URLs, internal search results, outdated content. Important: Noindex only works if the page isn’t also blocked from crawling via robots.txt, otherwise, Google won’t recognize the Noindex directive. At Waterproof Web Wizard, we document Noindex rules by page type to ensure that no one accidentally removes revenue-generating pages from the index.
