Cookies

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website stores in a visitor’s browser, for sessions, settings, shopping carts, authentication, or tracking. A distinction is made between first-party cookies (from the visited domain) and third-party cookies (from third-party providers such as ad networks). The third-party variety has been phased out gradually in all major browsers since 2024. At Waterproof Web Wizard, we review every project to determine which cookies are truly necessary, and which can be replaced by server-side or alternative techniques.
